Letter to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Regarding Gag Grouper, Nov. 2010

Gag grouper in the Gulf of Mexico is heavily overfished, undergoing overfishing, and is in need of significant reductions in harvest to end overfishing and rebuild the population. We urge the Commission to take decisive management action consistent with federal action to address overfishing for gag and begin the rebuilding process in 2011. Substantial gag harvest occurs in state waters off Florida's west coast and recent landings from Florida state waters exceed the proposed recommended catch level for the entire Gulf.
