Comments on the South Atlantic Fishery Management Council's Comprehensive Annual Catch Limit Amendment, Aug. 2010

The revised Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act  requires annual catch limits and accountability measures such that overfishing does not occur for all stocks in the fishery by 2011. Overall, the proposed series of actions and alternatives in the document provides a useful overview of the issues that should be included. However, the Pew Environment Group is concerned that the current draft of the Amendment falls short of addressing several of the new requirements of the law, and thus may not be sufficient to restore and protect fisheries in the region.
