Letter to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission Regarding Gag Grouper, Greater Amberjack, and Gray Triggerfish

These fisheries are an important component of the economy for communities up and down the Texas coast. Gag grouper, greater amberjack and gray triggerfish have been determined to be undergoing overfishing (i.e., fishing at unsustainable rates) while greater amberjack and gray triggerfish are also considered to be overfished (i.e., unsustainable low population level). Last year, the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council adopted management measures to end overfishing of these species, and to rebuild the greater amberjack and gray triggerfish populations.
