Al Gore to Lead Celebration of PennFuture's 10th Anniversary
Citizens for Pennsylvania's Future (PennFuture) announced today that Nobel laureate and former United States Vice President Al Gore will lead the celebration of PennFuture's 10th anniversary at a Gala event on Saturday, May 3, 2008 at the Sheraton Society Hill in Philadelphia. Dignitaries joining Gore include Teresa Heinz, Chair of The Heinz Endowments; Rebecca Rimel, President and CEO of the Pew Charitable Trusts; Feather O. Houston, President of the William Penn Foundation; Allyson Y. Schwartz, Member of Congress; Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter; and Pennsylvania Governor Edward G. Rendell.
“It is with a deep sense of honor that we welcome Vice President Gore and our other distinguished guests to our 10th Anniversary Gala,” said John Hanger, president and CEO of PennFuture. “Since our founding by The Heinz Endowments and the Pew Charitable Trusts in 1998, PennFuture has changed the landscape in Pennsylvania for both environmental protection and the economy. We've helped to enforce and write environmental rules, mobilize citizens, and forge legislative majorities to clean up Pennsylvania's environment and improve our economy. We have driven change across the state. We have worked for laws that will significantly cut Pennsylvania's massive contribution to the problem of global warming. And we've led the charge to make Pennsylvania a model for the 21st Century green economy.
“Vice President Gore's attendance at our 10th Anniversary Gala is recognition of the importance of our work and our victories,” continued Hanger. “But we know our efforts are just beginning. If we are to truly move our state, our nation, and our world into a new clean and green future and solve the problem of global warming, we know we have a long road ahead and many challenges to meet.”
A limited number of tickets to the PennFuture Gala are available online at www.pennfuture.org/gala. Tickets include a reception, dinner and dancing at $250 each.
