Pew Comments on 2015 National Drug Control Strategy Development

On Friday, September 12, Pew submitted comments to the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) regarding the development of the 2015 Drug Control Strategy.

In the comments, Pew supports ONDCP’s goal to reduce deaths associated with unintentional overdoses of prescription drugs by integrating prescription drug monitoring programs into prescribers’ workflow. In addition, Pew encourages ONDCP to include Medicare and Medicaid patients in populations considered at risk for prescription drug abuse, and to broaden systematic approaches for curbing prescription drug abuse to include patient review and restriction programs—designed to identify when patients over-utilize narcotics and other prescription drugs.
