Letter to White House: Reviewing Public Comments on Sage-Grouse Habitat

The Interior Department is reviewing public comments on 15 draft management plans for roughly 50 million acres of sage-grouse habitat across 10 western states. Four past administration officials recently sent a letter to the White House and Interior Department asking that BLM “get this right”: —Bob Abbey, former Bureau of Land Management director; Mike Dombeck, former U.S. Forest Service chief and acting BLM director; George Frampton, former Council on Environmental Quality chair; and Don Barry, former assistant secretary for fish, wildlife, and parks at Interior. In part, the letter reads: “BLM can—and must—provide sufficient regulatory certainty that these plans will not further endanger sensitive sage-grouse habitat.”
