LETTER

NGOs to Members of the European Parliament on fisheries subsidies

JUNE 26 2013  |  OCEAN2012 and NGOs

NGOs around Europe write to Parliament fisheries committee members and other Members of the European Parliament asking them not support a reintroduction of subsidies to build new vessels. Aid for vessel construction has maintained or even increased overfishing and there is no evidence that this type of subsidy leads to greater socio-economic or environmental benefits.

LETTER

NGOs warn MEPs of proposed first reading agreement on EMFF

JUNE 26 2013  |   OCEAN2012 and NGOs

NGOs around Europe write to the national heads of delegation of each of the political groups in the European Parliament asking them to ensure that the decision on the future European Maritime and Fisheries Fund, EMFF, is not taken by the Parliament's fisheries committee alone, but rather that the full plenary of the Parliament has the opportunity to adequately consider and vote on this important issue, which is relevant beyond just the field of fisheries management.
