Profile

Philip Chou is an officer with Pew’s global shark conservation campaign. He manages efforts to encourage countries to adopt domestic shark conservation measures, including public and private sector campaigns.

Before joining Pew, Chou spent seven years advancing market strategies to promote sustainable fishing and aquaculture and held the post of director of the seafood choices program at SeaWeb. An expert in biodiversity conservation and environmental policy in Asia, he also served for four years as an officer for Conservation International’s China program. In addition, he has expertise in renewable energy and served as senior outreach coordinator for RESOLVE’s National Wind (Energy) Coordinating Committee.

Chou has worked in China, the Philippines, Kenya, Russia, Panama, and Mexico; speaks Mandarin Chinese along with conversational Russian and Spanish; and served with the Peace Corps in Vladivostok, Russia. He holds a master of arts in international environmental policy from the Monterey Institute of International Studies.
