Global Penguin Society Website Launched

Pablo García-Borboroglu, a researcher at the National Research Council of Argentina (CONICET) and 2009 Pew Marine Fellow, was involved in launching the Global Penguin Society's Web site during the week of 30 August 2010. The goal of the society is to develop and advocate solutions for sustainable marine activities and management, drawing on penguins as charismatic, keystone species.

In particular, the society addresses four interrelated components: science, management, policy and education. It assesses the status of penguin populations, promotes the integration of new findings into science-based conservation, advises governments and influences policies, and develops media campaigns to educate communities about how to improve the quality of life for both penguins and people.
