Steve Marx leads Pew’s efforts to protect ocean life in the North Pacific. He incorporates evidence-based data about the ecosystem into the fishery management process for the region, and works with policymakers and scientists, including those who serve on the North Pacific and Pacific fishery management councils, to develop solutions to conserve habitat, reduce bycatch, and protect important marine fish species.
Before joining Pew, Marx handled natural resource issues in the field office for former Representative David Wu (D-OR). A native of coastal Alaska, Marx has extensive experience as a deckhand on commercial fishing vessels and recreational charter boats.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in international affairs from Lewis & Clark College and a master’s in public administration from Portland State University.
