The industrial sector uses more energy than any other sector and accounts for one-third of all greenhouse gas emissions generated in the United States each year. Pew is working to increase the amount of industrial energy efficiency to help create jobs, spur private investment, improve competitiveness, and enhance resiliency.
The POWER Act proposes changes to reduce the initial capital cost of installing WHP and CHP projects, spurring investment in these energy-saving units. Extending the tax credit would encourage developers to take advantage of the thousands of unrealized megawatts of potential, and flexible incentives would mean more U.S. companies could install these systems, making some of the largest power users more efficient, productive, and competitive.
Combined heat and power, or CHP, provides the U.S. industrial sector with an economical, timely solution to the problem of energy use and cost, while promoting economic growth and addressing future energy needs.
